An article By Viet Tran Written about my Work

ARTIST SAULNIER’S SURREAL WORLD
By Viet Tran

It has been fun getting into artist Saulnier’s surreal world of humour and fantasy. Viewers would extract an amazing story from every piece of her art depending on their own imagination. Her works have brought viewers to the sunny side of their day as those works could jack up their humour and happy mood. In addition, viewers can see their childhood wonders reflected in her works. I couldn’t stop laughing when I relate her works to some of the hilarious scenarios in the real life.

Her work Mother Nature reminded me about the very controversial phenomenon of global warming or climate change in a moderate term. Existence of human beings is at fault not only for abnormal and extremely lousy weather, but also for other natural disasters such as floods, hurricanes, snow storms, draughts, tsunamis, earthquakes, etc. Doom-day Sayers are panicked, crying, and shouting: “Duck! The sky is falling and the earth is about to end”.

There have been scientific games of pointing fingers. Who should be blamed for destroying our beautiful Mother Nature? Neither YOU nor ME as it is impossible to point our sensitive fingers inward to our lovely hearts. Can you tell me who is so insane to do so? There is likely no way to blame vehicles, planes, cruise-ships, coal-burnt trains. Those means of modern transportation give us joy and convenience in our daily activities. It is impossible to blame industrial factories in China as they produce cheap products essential to our survival, particularly during the tough time of currently global economic downturn.

Why don’t we blame painter Saulnier’s Monkey that ate too much banana and shot banana peels that punched big holes in the ozone layers, or surrealist Saulnier’s Cow– the one being abducted by alien – for its production of too much methane? Wouldn’t it be better to put the blame on her Fruit Collector for eating too much vegetables, fruit, and leaves which led to less greenhouse effect or her Eccentric Farmer for his wild dream of being an artist instead of growing vegetables and grass on his farmland?

The Amazing Race

Here is the latest painting in "The Amazing Race" series. There are 5 total now with this one being the only one available. I just love the thought of retro planes racing with giant fruit instead of bombs, Even though I am referring to this one having cherry bombs it is more of a joke. I am planning a huge one in this series maybe around 48x60 in the next few months. If anyone wants more info on this piece email me. I also have prints available of everyone of them in the series at www.paintingmaniac.com Thanks for reading my blog! Leah Saulnier The Painting Maniac
