A Frog ,Trees And A Giant Lemon

Last week I finished 2 paintings. The frog which I call "Frog Boy" I painted when I was teaching my first student, it's based on a stuffed toy I have and we both were working on our own, I wanted her to get the feel of the paint for the first time.
This second painting "The Fruit Orchard" Was a painting I had been working off and on for many weeks, it is part of my surreal fruit tree series and this is the largest so far 36x48 oil. To see other surreal fruit trees that go with this piece which include Cherry,Lemon,Orange,Dragon Fruit, Horned melon, Pear, Mango, I will add a link to my website.

My Surreal Life and My Wacky Art World

I decided last week to my first self portrait. I thought I could do just a regular portrait but that sounded boring to me, so I thought putting my image on a dress mannequin was more suitable to my personality and my wacky world. I love and live in the desert so that suited me also for this piece and is also a good back drop to Items and characters I used that were in previous paintings of mine like Crash my Dog, misfit potato head, My sock monkey doll,my stick figure to the back right, The Lemon Blimp, and my protecting baby series with the pears. I own an antique dress mannequin from 1910 so this just felt like my art world bringing everything together. The original is 30x24x1.5 oil and won't be for sale. I will add a link where prints will be available of this one and all my other work.

Surrealism And Lemon Drops

Hello all artist's and art lovers! Happy Valentine's Day! I went from my humorous mood in my work to my surrealistic mood this week and have a series of Lemon paintings I have been working on. This one is called "Lemon Drops" Surrealism is such an interesting genre and stretches the imagination. I was told once by one of my followers that there aren't many females that paint surrealism. I find that interesting and wonder why. Any input by anyone with that?

Love And Alien Tourists

I finished my painting "Welcome To Roswell" yesterday. I love how it feels like alien lovers arriving to the city of Roswell to take a tour. The Pink alien is named Zoe and The Green one is named Roger. I would have to say it's one of my favorite alien piece's I have done so far. I want to have them continue touring Roswell in future paintings. This one will also go into my future New Mexico book of twists and tales

I am working on my first painting "Welcome To Roswell" in a series for a future book I want to do that will be called "New Mexico Twist's And Tales", which will be funny twists on myths, facts and folk lore from different cities around my state. New Mexico is great subject matter for this, since I live here, love it here and am an artist this seems to be a great idea. Hopefully I will done soon with the first painting.

Oil Painting -Don't Listen To Schooling!!!

I don't understand why many schools insist students need to use mediums and turpentine to paint with oil paints! It's not true. It's toxic and a headache. when you want to wash your brushes all you need is DAWN dish soap or Murphey's oil soap. I do have a glass jar 1/5 filled with terpenoid natural in the green can and is citrus based to soak my brushes after painting till I get to the sink to wash which is like a month but that's it! If anyone has anymore questions about this feel free to ask. I also find Oil paint is cheaper to paint with than acrylics.

Sideshow series WIP "The Taming Of The Giant Bunnies"

I started this today. It's a work in progress. The first painting in my sideshow series. "The Taming Of The Giant Bunnies" 24x30 Oil

I will post the completed painting in a few days. Thanks for looking!

The Oddities Of Life And New Sideshow In The Works

For years and years I have always been intrigued with odd things and odd people, I should just say the oddities of life. I always loved going to the circus and state fair sideshows, and in my "Star" chart it says I am a collector of Misfit's. Well it seems to be coming all together now that I start a new series called "The Sideshow" it will have a subtitle for each individual one and all my sideshows will be made up. I start the first today which is already sketched out called' The Taming Of The Giant Bunnies" I will post the progress here. I have many others in mind to follow.

If anyone has any input on some interesting ideas for the series let me know. The painting above is a sort of attempt from a few years ago with a similar thought, it's called "The Contortionist" Stay tuned for upcoming additions to my new series .

My Brain Off The Internet And The result of Road Hogs

January was a very productive month. It's only the 27th of January and I already have completed 10 paintings mostly miniatures but a few large ones also. Earlier this week our internet went out for a WHOLE day lol, and this is what I came up with to keep my mind busy "Stick Figure 1"

It almost looks like I was trying to get a satelite signal or something with this piece.

A few days before I was in the car with my daughter and witnessed so many Road Hogs and people cutting other driver's off and came up with this painting called "Road Hog" which I eventually painted the next day.

A few weeks ago I was on a potato head binge! I did 5 in all! It was almost like an addiction and had to stop myself after the 5th dose. Here was the outcome:There are 2 misfit potato heads, sweet potato, cowboy potato head and Tater Tots.

Thanks for taking a look into my world! There were a few more which are on my website at www.paintingmaniac.com
